My thoughts

If you like BBQ I suggest you add this to your list of places to go while visiting Fort Leonard Wood.

They are located just off I-44 on Z-Highway – you can’t miss it if you look left as you’re taking the exit for Fort Leonard Wood.  Their parking lot and dining area are a bit on the small side, but I have personally never needed to wait for a table.

Not only have I eaten at Sweetwater, but also used them for catering and carry-out.  The prices are reasonable and the service is fast!

You won’t find anything on the menu but meet and sides typically associated with BBQ.  They have all of the common main courses: beef, pork, turkey, and ham.

Great BBQ!  This place rocks!  The brisket, ribs and pulled pork are all excellent.  There is fried catfish on certain nights too (I think Mon-Wed).  They have some great sides, potato salad and beans were the best.  Beer on tap, good prices, no-frills dining room.  Staff was very friendly too.

There aren’t a lot of good places to eat in St. Robert/Ft Leonard Wood area, this is probably one of if not the best.  Be sure to stop by if you’re looking for some good food.

BBQ sauce is on the sweeter side but it’s still delicious.

When I was in Kansas City searching for BBQ, I had a picture in my head:  a run-down hole in the wall that hadn’t seen a fresh coat of paint in 20 years.  A sign with broken letters.  Staff who would just as soon curse you out as take your order, and really don’t give a hoot if you like what you bought or not.  Food that makes you wanna slap ya mama.

We went to the wrong spot in KC.  But we found the right spot in St. Robert, MO.  Sweetwater is exactly what I had in mind.  Everything we got was good.  Our son the soldier got beef and pulled pork; both were scooped high atop slices of Wonder bread, and served next to  generous sides of potato salad and green beans.  The wife had pork ribs and sliced smoked turkey, with green beans and “hillbilly beans.”  I had pork ribs and chicken, with hillbilly beans and cole slaw.  All was absolutely delicious; great smoked meats that didn’t need a drop of sauce.  Add a very good, thick sauce, and I was in hog heaven.

Sodas, lemonade, sweet tea . . . all there for you, with 2nds and 3rds if that’s what you wanted.  Portions were huge; the only one who could finish was the soldier, who was soooo gratified for quality food after boot camp that a PB&J sandwich probably would have sufficed as well.  Great BBQ, and lots of it, for cheap.  The most expensive combo plate was under $11.  I had an itch for good BBQ . . . Sweetwater scratched it, and then some.

I don’t give out many 5 stars but when I do it’s for a good reason and Sweetwater is one of those places.
Really easy to find. 2 minutes away from the strip club. Got it and there is a big sign right in front so should be pretty easy. It’s several minutes away from Ft. Leonardwod.
I had the 3 choice combo which includes 2 sides. Choices of meat are pulled pork, sausage, turkey, ribs, chicken and brisket. The sides include green beans, fries, macaroni salad, baked beans and maybe a few other items.
The sweet tea is the BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never had sweet tea before. I always thought sweet tea is tea with lots of sugar but this place is so good, I would of just ordered that and would of been content. The best part is that you can drink all you want and of course I got my fix. 7 cups to be exact, Thank you.
Remember that I said I had the 3 combo. Well the price, $9.99. Say What? It was a mound of food. I’m known as a heavy hitter when it comes to food but let me tell you, I had to unbuckle couple of notches on my belt. I was so full that I didn’t even eat breakfast the next day. That’s how much food you get.
The staff is really wonderful people. I’ve never really dealt with people from the south but if they are like these then I would have to say that it’s a wonderful place to visit.

Reasonable price for bbq. Fast service & very clean. Delicious all around.

My husband and I love Sweetwater BBQ. We take everyone that comes to visit us to eat here, and we frequent it on our own too. The portions are filling. My husband usually gets the ribs and has a hard time finishing it. It’s a very laid back atmosphere, which we enjoy.
